Outside of MA I am a father of 2, a son and daughter, and have been married for 24+ years. I enjoy golf, which I have been playing for over 33 years, and have spent the last 15 years involved in the Boy Scouts of America, specifically Troop 103, in Columbia. In Scouts they have a slogan, an oath, and a motto "Be Prepared". I think this is quite relevant for today, and I would like to have a motto, "Be Observant". It has been said that 95% of self defense is avoiding bad situations. Be observant of your surroundings and the people in them. I have noticed many of the Martial Artists I have talked to have had few occasions to use their art (with the exception of police officers and military personnel), and I believe the reason is we have all learned how to avoid, and or diffuse bad situations. I'll be honest, I can't do a split, or a round house to your head, but if you train with us, I promise you'll get in shape and learn, in my humble opinion, one of the best arts of self defense, the art of HapKiDo as taught and handed down by Grand Master JR West.. Like my instructor Joe Corchado always said "we are like a big family". We will learn together, and hopefully better ourselves and maybe add a little piece of mind when and if we ever have to defend ourselves or our loved ones. I would like to thank my instructor Joe Corchado for all his help, guidance and especially patience. I owe him a lot. Also, our instructor Master Don Holcomb. They both continue to teach and advise me on a regular basis. Thank you Sirs. David A. Lepard Head Instructor Spring Hill Self Defense Spring Hill, TN |

It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." - Charles Darwin Hello my name is David Lepard. I have been studying Martial Arts for almost 7 years. I, like most people my age, became interested with MA watching Kung Fu on television. Now looking back I really like the way the character Kwai Chang Caine always did everything he could to avoid fighting. I actually started my MA training in Kung Fu for about a year, with the Dragon Claw Studio. My instructor Sifu Kevin Jordan ended up leaving Tennessee, and I joined a friend of his Joe Corchado, who was teaching HapKiDo, at the Nashville Self-Defense Academy. At the time, I had never heard of HapKiDo but quickly found out how effective it was and matched up perfectly with my I ideas of self defense. After several years of HapKiDo I also studied Brazilian jiu-jitsu for a short time with Jeremy Akin at Evolution Jiu-Jitsu Academy, also located in Nashville. "I recently earned my 2nd Dan (Degree) Black Belt in HapKiDo. |
